Shakhrisabz
The Ak Saray Summer Palace Tower

Shakhrisabz is a small town, 90 km south of Samarkand, haunted by the ghosts of the glorious past, for it is the family seat of Timur the Great: where he was born, where his summer palace (above) stood, and where he was intended to be buried, although circumstances prevented it.

The mausoleum known as the Crypt of Timur, subject of a mysterious recent robbery, is here, near the Tomb of Jehangir, Timur's eldest and best beloved son, who predeceased him.
