Thanks Kim - I'm very glad to have got there in the end, though I don't think I'll be heading to academia in the near future; lousy long-term prospects these days.
BTW, I wanted to say: big, big congrats on becoming Dr. James! The way you phrased it at first I wasn't sure if you were 'done with it' in the sense of got through the last hurdle, or walked away in disgust. I actually have great respect for both choices, but it's always good to see good people stay the course and make a go of it :)
Too ashamed, having seen what I missed, to dare to comment immediately ;)

The Debriefing page is up.
OK; that's 3 votes for the debrief, 2 for continue (but debrief is ok). So Debrief it is!
KimK, things are definitely better for me as I'm now Dr James; My impression is things are also stable/on the way up for John & Pip but as their issues are personal/medical I don't want to say any more on their behalf.
I will set up a debriefing page and type it all up - hopefully somewhat quicker than the original game - feel free to chime in with questions…
I'm afraid I'll have to vote for the debrief; I still don't honestly think I've got it in me to pursue this the way it should be. I am also fascinated to find out what was going on, though… I honestly did not really know, in the time we were playing, where the story was going to go!
(Hope things are better for all of you - James, John, Pip!)
I also got a bit busy and never did get around to putting that insolent doctor in his place.
I'd be happy to pick it up again but if we don't, then a debrief would be nice.
If we don't pick it up then London bookworm shenanigans could be fun too.
Q.
i'd be delighted in a debrief, but only if we all agree (or abstain). There was lots going on and i was intrigued!
Hi all,
This is the long overdue what happened to this game post. Short answer, things went pearshaped with my PhD and some of you had profound crises of your own to deal with, particularly John and Pip. My PhD is now over, oncce and for all. So I am trying to patch up various things left in the lurch by it, like this game.
Options: 1. Try to continue where we left off. Happy to give this a shot if ppl are interested.
2. Debrief — I'll tell you all the plot, so you're not left with that "I wonder where that was going" sensation.
I also want to note that I have, more or less accidentally, ended up gaming another cthulhu pbp game based on Bookhounds of London - characters are all connected in one way or another with the trade in rare and dubious books in 1930s London - after the original gm dropped out. So there would be room for a few players in that if you would still like to do something similar.
Sorry for this delay. Things, aka stuff. Finished another round of thesis drafting and got promoted into a new job. Also lost my notes on what Dr Tchernov's clue was (blush).
No, but I do admit to being a bit stumped on what to do now. Waiting for Sharaf to start interrogating the arrogant russian doctor, and waiting for Nordman to basically say "ok, that's it, let's get out of here". Or something else.
i suppose the next scene will be Termiz, you could start writing that, perhaps?
Just checking you all haven't dropped dead on me…
And it's up! Sorry for the delay, everyone!
In the meantime, an amusing anecdote about being a tourist in the 'stans:

feel very, very, VERY free to delete everything I wrote and write something new. No hard feelings there what so ever.
Hi,
Sorry for recent slowdown: I've had a bunch of short term things come up: replacing my home computer, tax time, sudden rush of stuff at work, etc. Hopefully by the end of next week I can set up the next scene properly, thanks to Mattias for writing the initial description.
This weekend I'm going to AussieCon4 (WorldCon 60something) so I'll be offline for a few days.
Wow. Good luck with all of that!
Hi, everyone — I'm going to be off-line for a week or two, I expect. I've had a sort of cascading catastrophic computer failure at home, at the same time I'm wrapping up my current job and training my replacement and GETTING OUT OF HERE, so I'm pretty distracted. I'll get back ASAP though.
